Re-organisation of (West) Cork No. 3 Brigade of Irish Volunteers.

Introduction from Chronology

At a meeting on this date, there are a number of changes made to the personnel of the West Cork Brigade.

More Detail

The meeting took place at Caheragh, Drimoleague and was presided over by Collins.

Deasy says that Seán Hayes was appointed Brigade V/C to replace Hugh Thornton; Liam Deasy appointed Brigade Adjutant to replace Michael McCarthy (who was made Acting O/C of the Dunmanway Battalion) and Pat Harte was appointed Brigade QM to replace Denis O’Shea.  (O’Donoghue says that Ted O’Sullivan replaced Seán Hayes as V/C at this meeting.  Deasy was not at the meeting.)

O’Donoghue says that this was the last occasion that Collins or any senior member of the GHQ staff visited any of the three Cork Brigades during the War of Independence (but that members of the Cork Brigades visited Dublin for meetings with GHQ staff).
