Re-organisation of British Army in Ireland - November 1919

More Detail

The three old commands of the British Army in Ireland replaced by seven brigades in two regular divisions.

The 5th Division, under Major-General Sir Hugh Jeudwine, had four brigades (including Dublin and Belfast) with the Curragh as its HQ.

The 6th Division, under Major-General Sir Peter Strickland, had four brigades (the 16th, 17th, 18th and Kerry).  Divisional HQ is in Cork and Brigade HQ of the 16th is in Fermoy; Brigade HQ for the 17th Brigade based in Cork; the 18th Brigade is based in Limerick and the Kerry Brigade's HQ is in Buttevant - which, appropriately enough, is not in Kerry.  For the British Army 6th Division Strength in 1920-  See Appendices VIII and IX, Townshend (1975), pgs 217-220.
